Faculty of Hetu Evam Adhyatma Vidya (Logic and Spirituality) consists of three Departments: Department of Mool Shastra, Department of Sampradaya Shastra and Department of Bon Shastra. While the faculty, along with the departments of Mool Shastra and Sampradaya Shastra, is one of the three faculties introduced when the Institute was first established, the Department of Bon Shastra was introduced later in 1990. The faculty offers programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels leading to degrees of Shastri (BA), Acharya (MA) and Vidyavaridhi (Phd) in Buddhist Philosophy (Baudh Darshan). While the Mool Shastra (Tibetan translation of the original Indian Buddhist treatises) courses are on the study of Buddhist Philosophy embedded in the works of the Indian Buddhist masters, the Sampradaya Shastra (works of the Tibetan Buddhist masters) courses are on the study of the works of Tibetan Buddhist Masters from the four Tibetan Buddhist Schools: Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Geluk; and Bon Shastra (works of the Bon masters) courses are on Bon religious tradition, an indigenous Tibetan religion with its own corpus of literature.
Programme Outcomes:
U.G Shastri (BA) in Baudh Darshan:
The objective of this programme is to advance students’ critical awareness of the background to the origin and nature of Indian Buddhist Philosophy as well as Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy.
P.G Acharya (MA) in Baudh Darshan:
The objective of this programme is to advance students’ critical awareness of the background to the origin and nature of Indian Buddhist Philosophy as well as Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy and their development.
