Translation Unit
The Translation Unit of the Research Faculty, which engages into a number of translation works of canonical texts of both ancient Indian and Tibetan scholars of par excellence, is one of the important constituents of the Research Department. The unit has taken up the translation of a number of important texts under major and minor projects, which are in an ongoing process. Since the inception of the Unit in 1987, it has brought out more than a dozen Hindi/English translations of Restored Sanskrit texts along with their Tibetan critical editions. Apart from that, existing Sanskrit and Tibetan texts are edited with a research oriented introduction and appendices. Among these, some of the important works of restoration of canonical texts from Tibetan sources and Hindi translation etc. were completed. The unit has collaborations with five colleges of Massachusetts, USA and University of Tasmania, Australia and has established exchange programmes right from the inception of the Unit till date and has played an active role in all the activities of the University.

Current Projects
Presently the Unit members are working individually or as a teamwork on following texts for translation, editing and restoration:
- Mrtyuvancana : (Vagishvarakirti). Editing Sanskrit and Tibetan versions along with Hindi and English translation is in progress.
- Caraka Samhita (Vol. I) : Translation into Tibetan. First part has been translated and published.
- Tattva Sangraha Panjika : (Shantarakshita and Kamalashila). Editing of both the Sanskrit and Tibetan versions is under way.
- Mahabodhi Patha Krama : (Tsongkhapa). Hindi translation is in progress.
- Yuktisashtikavrittih : (Acharya Nagarjuna and Candrakirti). Restoration of the root text into Sanskrit with the Hindi translation. Hindi translation of both the root text and its commentary are completed; the restoration is in progress.
- Mahayana Sangraha : (Asanga). Restoration of first two chapters is completed and Hindi translation is in progress.
- Kunsang Lamai Shal Lung : (Za Patul Rinpoche). Hindi translation is in progress.
- Bodhipathapradipa Panjika : (Atisa). Restoration into Sanskrit with its Hindi translation under completion (?).
- Legs Shad Ser Phreng (2nd and 3rd chapters) : (Tsongkhapa) Hindi translation completed.
- Madhyamakavatara (6th chapter with commentary) : (Candrakirti) First draft Hindi translation is in
process.
- Ashokavadanam : Hindi translation of the text is in progress.
- Jatakamala : (Haribhatta) Hindi translation is in progress.
- Ashtangasamgraha Vol. I (Vagbhata): Critical edition and Tibetan commentary is in progress.
