In accordance with the objectives of the University, for the pursuance of scholarly activities, it was felt necessary to establish Departments, devoted to research in Indo-Tibetan Buddhist literature. There are four Research Departments conducting research in their specified areas. The Department of Restoration mainly focuses on the restoration of Buddhist Sanskrit texts that are lost in their original, but available in their Tibetan translations. The Department of Translation conducts the translation of Buddhist Sanskrit and Tibetan texts into modern languages. The Department of Rare Buddhist Texts Research mainly concentrates on the research of Buddhist Sanskrit Tantric texts, through preparing critical editions of the Sanskrit manuscripts, along with their Tibetan versions. The Department of Dictionary prepares various dictionaries, glossaries, concordances based on the Sanskrit and the Tibetan texts.
