The main objective of this department is to give education on compulsory ancient traditional texts in order to enrich Sanskrit language, Paniniya grammar including it's literature for the students coming from various places such as: Tibetan communities, Bhutan, Nepal, Mangolia, Russia and Himalayan region of India from Leh, Laddhakh to Arunachal Pradesh. It is also aimed to promote Ph. D. in Sanskrit, restoration and Enclish Hindi translation of lost ancient original Sanskrit Buddhist literature and philosophy that ar available in the form of Tibetan translation.
Since seventh century onward until today Tibetan literature has a deep relation with Sanskrit language as all the Mahayan Philosophy texts were translated in to Tibetan language rom Buddhist Sanskrit texts. Therefor, it is considered in Tibetan tradition that in order to have complete knowledge of BUddhism one shoud have knowledge of Sanskrit.
It is also aimed to teach through Sanskrit medium in high classes where students have to solve the exam papers only in Sanskrit language.
Compulsory Sanskrit teaching is given here up to Shastri classes. As an optional subject in Khavarga the root Sanskrit texts related to Sanskrit poem, Avadana, Jataka, Nitishastra and other Sankhya, Vedanta, Nyaya-Vaisheshika etc.Indian philosophies including Buddhist philosophy are taught.

Students who passed Acharya degree (M.A) from this institute specially do Ph.D. on Sanskrit and Bhot Baudha-Darshana and generally do Ph.D. in literature, dictionary etc.
