Within the traditional Tibetan learning system, there are ten major categories of Art of Learning. Tibetan Astro Science is one of those categories. There are many similarities between Indian and Tibetan Astro-Science. Therefore, in future our graduate students can do research, translation and restoration works on this art of Astro-Science. So, it is important to preserve and promote ancient Tibetan Astro-Science.

Ongoing Research Work

• Preparing Annual Calendar (Kalacakra) of the University and Annual Tibetan Almanac.
  The Department proposes new research works to collate and compile all the scattered texts related to the Tibetan Astro-Science extant in various volumes of Kagyur, Tangyur and Sungbum of various Tibetan scholars and make them available to students, research scholars and other scholars who are interested in this field of Tibetan Astro-Science. It will not only enable us to compare these texts with other systems of Jyotish and to explore translation and restoration work required in this field but also to preserve this tradition for prosperity.
