Co-Curricular Activities

Along with the rigorous teaching patterns in the classrooms, the students also have a vibrant off the class life on the campus. Various co-curricular activities throughout the year are organized to ensure the holistic development of the students. Along with the academic, cultural and sports activities, the students get a chance to showcase their skills in various fields of community services.

The students’ representation is amply reflected in various student bodies elected by themselves, like Students Welfare Association (SWA), Mess Management Committee (MMC), Students’ Association of Performing Arts (SAPA), Voluntary Community for Social Service (VCSS), and the Nirvana Group, Tibetan Buddhist Youth Association, and Tibetan Women’s Association. Anticipating the New Education Policy 2020, the Institute has a unique support system for the newly admitted students as peer learning or buddy system where the seniors mentor the juniors. Every year, the students also go on educational tours and excursions.

Various inter and intra conferences are organized by the student bodies throughout the year. The Induction Programme to welcome the freshers is a much awaited event of the academic calendar. Different in-house student organizations strive for excellence in student publication via students’ editorial board like Varnai Riglab. The editorial board of the students also publishes their own book series known as Dung Tra meaning the sound of a conch shell. The students publish in various magazines and journals in different genres like poetry, short stories, research articles, etc. The Institute magazine Bodhi Prabha also provides a platform to the students to showcase the abilities to write and publish.

The student community of CIHTS deeply understands the value of compassion and the art of living for the others. Consequently, throughout the year, they participate in various altruistic activities like donating food to the needy, clothes to the beggars, blankets and winter garments to children, food to the fish in Ganga etc. The independent Animal Welfare Association of CIHTS ensures the quality taking care of different animals like dogs and other strays. The student body also organizes diverse cultural programmes celebrating the birth and death anniversaries of various Indian and Tibetan gurus. The Annual Calendar ensures the well balanced distribution of activities on different occasions like Foundation Day, Losar, Democracy Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Samvidhan Divas, and other miscellaneous activities.

Along with the mental health, the Institute ensures to develop the physical endurance among the students via various sports activities throughout the academic year. An expansive football ground along with three basketball and badminton courts allow the students to strengthen their muscles on the field. The students can be seen on the grounds almost every day after the classes. Irrespective of the gender, both the boys’ and girls’ teams also participate in various intra and inter university tournaments. The students of CIHTS have brought laurels to the Institute in various sports like football, basketball, cycling, etc. The annual events, Lal Mani Joshi Football tournament, Basketball tournament and athletic meet are the much awaited events for the students. There is a premier league football tournament held every winter; and the students participate in the Gyayum Chenmo Football Tournament. The students also participate in the athletic games such as running, relay race, short put and long jump. There are facilities of indoor games like table tennis and chess in every hostel. A well-qualified trainer and a coach has been recruited by the Institute to ensure the proper training in various fields of sports.
